Angelina Jolie, originally Angelina Jolie Voight (born on the 4th of June, 1975 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actress, director and producer best known for her sex appeal , as also her humanitarian work. The role she played in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was one of the roles she received for the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her childhood in New York. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 11 years old. She was a student at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years. She then enrolled at Beverly Hills High School. New York University later taught her drama. Apart from acting in theater productions, she also was a model and featured in music videos.Jolie's first major movie part was in Hackers (1995), during the filming process, she became engaged to her first husband British actor Jonny Lee Miller (married 1996; divorced 1999). As with several subsequent films, Hackers did not garner a following. Jolie was the segregationist spouse of Alabama's governor. She received much attention in 1997. Jolie later won an award, the Golden Globe Award. In the HBO film Gia, she was a supermodel who had a drug addiction. She received numerous distinctions as well as an award of the Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. In 1999, she was a part of the comedy Pushing Tin with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and the following year she married Thornton (divorced 2003).After the Oscar-winning performance in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie appeared in a string of action films. She played the wife of the carjacker (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later adopted the British accent and was able to master combat sports and street fighting for the main roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). She played the role of Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's Alexander (2004) as well as was in the film with Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow (a sci-fi thriller set in 1930s New York City). Both films failed at box office, however Jolie had a great time in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005). She played a woman who pretended to play an assassin. While working on the film she came across Brad Pitt who became her co-star.
